The Role
As a Clinical Nurse Manager, you will play a key role in the leadership, coordination and management of nursing services within your designated clinical area.
Working closely with the Director of Nursing, Assistant Directors of Nursing, multidisciplinary teams and other healthcare professionals, you will help ensure the delivery of safe, effective, evidence-based and patient-centred care.
The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership, oversee the day-to-day running of the department or unit, support nursing staff and contribute to the continuous improvement of clinical services.
Key responsibilities:
- Clinical Leadership and Patient Care
- Provide professional and clinical leadership to nursing staff within the designated clinical area.
- Ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, evidence-based and patient-centred nursing care.
- Promote best practice in clinical assessment, care planning, treatment and patient management.
- Monitor clinical standards and ensure compliance with relevant professional guidelines, hospital policies and procedures.
- Promote patient dignity, respect, confidentiality and a positive patient experience.
- Identify and escalate clinical risks, patient safety concerns and incidents appropriately.
- Staff Management and Development
- Lead, supervise and support nursing and healthcare support staff.
- Manage staff rostering, deployment and allocation of duties to meet service requirements.
- Support staff induction, training, mentoring and ongoing professional development.
- Encourage a positive working environment that promotes teamwork, accountability and professional excellence.
- Support performance management, staff engagement and the development of clinical competencies.
- Clinical Governance and Quality Improvement
- Promote a strong culture of patient safety, clinical governance and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with relevant policies, procedures, professional standards and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, incident reviews and the implementation of corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure appropriate record-keeping practices.
- Contribute to the development, review and implementation of clinical policies and procedures.
- Support the implementation of evidence-based practice and initiatives designed to improve patient outcomes.
- Operational and Resource Management
- Oversee the effective day-to-day operation of the designated ward, unit or department.
- Ensure the appropriate allocation and management of staffing, equipment and other clinical resources.
- Assist with service planning, workload management and the efficient delivery of nursing services.
- Monitor operational performance and contribute to service development initiatives.
- Support effective communication between nursing teams, senior management, patients, families and multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with medical teams, allied health professionals and other relevant departments.
- Facilitate effective communication and coordination of patient care.
- Promote a collaborative, supportive and respectful environment across the healthcare team.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary meetings, care planning and the ongoing development of clinical services.
Key requirements:
- Current registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) in the relevant division
- Relevant post-registration nursing experience in an appropriate clinical setting
- Previous experience in a clinical leadership, supervisory or management position, where required
- Strong communication, organisational, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- OET/IELTS Certificate (If applicable)
- A sound understanding of clinical governance, patient safety, quality assurance and evidence-based nursing practice.
- The ability to lead, motivate and develop a multidisciplinary team.
- A commitment to continuing professional development and maintaining high professional standards.
- The clinical, managerial and administrative capability required to fulfil the responsibilities of the position.
- A recognised management qualification or additional relevant postgraduate qualification may be advantageous or required for certain appointments, depending on the role and grade
