We are currently assisting General Practices/Family Medicine clinics across Ireland who are seeking compassionate and clinically confident Registered Nurses.
The successful candidate will provide safe, evidence-based nursing care across the patient life course, support prevention and health promotion, and work closely with GPs and the wider multidisciplinary team.
Key responsibilities:
- The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a broad range of high-quality nursing services within a General Practice/Family Medicine setting, including:
- Phlebotomy and routine blood sampling.
- Administration of injections and medications in accordance with professional scope of practice and practice protocols.
- Administration of seasonal vaccinations and travel vaccinations, including appropriate assessment, documentation and post-vaccination observation.
- Delivery of childhood immunisation programmes in line with current national guidance.
- Wound care and dressings, including assessment, treatment and follow-up.
- Performing cervical screening/cervical smears where appropriately trained and authorised.
- Ear irrigation and associated patient assessment and aftercare.
- Performing and recording electrocardiograms (ECGs).
- Blood pressure monitoring, including the application and review of 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitors.
- Conducting health assessments, screening and preventative health checks.
- Supporting chronic disease management, including patient monitoring, education, care planning, review and escalation where required.
- Providing telephone and face-to-face triage, clinical advice and appropriate signposting/referral within scope of practice.
- Delivering patient education and health promotion, supporting healthy lifestyles, preventative care and self-management.
- Assisting GPs and clinicians with minor surgical procedures, maintaining appropriate infection prevention and clinical standards.
- Providing appropriate emergency care and response within the practice setting.
- Supporting antenatal and postnatal care and providing appropriate patient education and follow-up.
- Supporting STI screening, sexual health assessments and appropriate onward referral in accordance with practice protocols.
- Maintaining accurate, timely and confidential clinical records and contributing to audit, quality improvement, infection prevention and clinical governance.
- Working collaboratively with GPs, practice staff, community services and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, coordinated and patient-centred care.
- Maintaining clinical equipment and supplies and contributing to a safe, organised and well-managed treatment environment.
Key requirements:
- Current registration as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)
- Relevant post-registration nursing experience; experience in general practice, primary care, community nursing or a closely related setting is desirable
- Competence, or willingness to complete training, in core practice-nursing activities such as immunisation, phlebotomy, wound care, ECGs, screening and chronic disease management
- Strong clinical judgement, patient assessment, documentation and escalation skills, with a clear understanding of professional scope and accountability
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a calm, respectful and inclusive approach to patients of all ages and backgrounds
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a multidisciplinary team and adapting to a varied primary-care workload
- Commitment to continuing professional development, evidence-based practice, safeguarding, infection prevention and patient confidentiality.
- IT literacy and confidence using electronic health-record / practice-management systems; experience with HealthOne or a comparable system is an advantage.
