Resident Medical Officer Co-ordinator

A suberb opportunity has become available with a private hospital in the west that would suit a doctor who has proven clinical, administrative and people management experience.

The ideal candidate will be an organised and proactive individual who can provide administrative support and coordination for Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) providing medical cover for inpatients within the hospital, under the guidance of the Consultant responsible for the care of patients.

Key responsibilities of the Resident Medical Officer Co-ordinator:

  • Lead the recruitment and onboarding of new RMOs as required.
  • Prepare and circulate a monthly rota covering all RMO activity, including daytime and out-of-hours cover
  • Ensure all RMOs are appropriately orientated to the hospital and maintain compliance with mandatory training requirements
  • Review the RMO role in the context of the nursing and medical needs of the hospital and make recommendations as appropriate
  • Review and update existing RMO contracts in conjunction with Human Resources
  • Act as the single point of contact for all matters relating to RMO conduct and behaviour where this may impact on other staff, and vice versa
  • Establish clear and effective communication mechanisms to ensure a direct line of communication between all relevant staff members and the RMO Coordinator
  • Promote and enhance communication and collaboration between RMOs and other clinical areas
  • Provide input to the Medical Advisory Committee on matters relating to RMOs
  • Investigate and report on incidents involving RMOs and ensure appropriate follow-up actions are undertaken
  • Conduct RMO appraisals after three months and annually thereafter
  • Ensure RMO training and competency requirements remain compliant with Joint Commission International (JCI) standards
  • Actively participate in the hospital’s Quality Improvement Programme

The role of RMO Coordinator encompasses a broad range of responsibilities and is varied in nature. The above list is therefore not exhaustive, and the post holder may be required to undertake other duties as reasonably directed by the Medical Director.

Key requirements of the Resident Medical Officer Co-ordinator:

  • Current Irish Medical Council (IMC) General Registration
  • Proven post-internship experience in General Medicine and/or General Surgery
  • Demonstrable people management and leadership skills
  • Excellent administrative, organisational and coordination skills
  • Valid ACLS and PALS certification
  • A management qualification is desirable but not essential
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and time-management skills
