Senior Medical Scientist – Biochemistry ( Maternity leave cover)

Looking for the next move in you Career? Are you an experience Medical Scientist in the area of Biochemistry? We have an exciting opportunity for the right canidate with our client , a Dublin based Hospital.
Duties would include

  • Reporting concerns for the safety and welfare of patients.
  • Maintaining throughout the hospital an awareness of the primacy of patient in relation to all hospital activities and maintain a clear understanding of the importance of providing a quality and safe service to all patients.
  • Participating in future development of the Laboratory Service that supports the clinical needs of the patients and is consistent with the mission, vision, values and strategic plan of the Hospital.
  • Participating with the Chief Medical Scientist or Laboratory Manager in leading and training a team of skilled staff and creating and promoting healthy working relationships.
  • Participating with the Chief Medical Scientist or Laboratory Manager in identifying and implementing operational processes in Biochemistry/Near Patient Testing to the standards of ‘best practice’ in order to optimise use of resources.
  • Participating, as required, with the Chief Medical Scientist or Laboratory Manager in costing methods for the laboratory service to other Hospital Departments.
  • Participating in the implementation and maintenance of the ‘quality management’ programme which is patient centred and which measures and audits performance and user satisfaction.
  • Actively participating in and promoting continuing education and research activities consistent with the position.
  • Promoting open communications throughout the Hospital.
  • Demonstrating behaviour consistent with the values of the Hospital.
  • Performing routine and specialised work to the highest professional standards as determined by the Chief Medical Scientist or Laboratory Manager.
  • Assuming responsibility for the quality of work and carrying out all duties in accordance with Hospital policy and accreditation standards.
  • Ensuring that all policies and procedures identified by the hospital as being relevant to the post have been read, acknowledged, implemented and adhered to.
  • Observing the strictest confidence when dealing with all aspects of patient or Hospital information.

Management:

  • Carrying out and organising the technical work within the section to meet the timelines required of the laboratory service.
  • Coordinating scientific staff and/or support staff to optimise productivity, within the laboratory,
  • Participating in developing and introducing new ideas and methods according to Hospital policy.
  • Supervising and delegating, as appropriate, the registration, custody and stock level of the Laboratory reagents, drugs and other materials held in the section.
  • Receiving and recording details concerning mishaps, complaints and defects in supplies and equipment, investigate the circumstances with appropriate team members and taking the necessary actions and report the findings as required.
  • Ensuring that policy in relation to the Laboratory record keeping is followed.
  • In consultation with the Chief Medical Scientist or Laboratory Manager facilitating arrangements, where appropriate, to introduce professional and/or other visitors to the Laboratory.
  • Co-operating regarding procedures to be followed in prevention and management of accidents occurring in the Laboratory area.
  • Facilitating arrangements in the Laboratory area for educating and training Laboratory staff.
  • In consultation with the Chief Medical Scientist or Laboratory Manager participating on Hospital and/or external committees as required.
  • Ensuring appropriate compliance with International and National guidelines and standards for the provision of Laboratory Services and actively participating in internal and external quality control and quality assurance.

Staff Management

  • Promoting a professional, punctual and dedicated team with good open communications.
  • Creating and promoting healthy working relationships and stimulating initiative among Laboratory staff.
  • Maintaining team work and acting in accordance with the Hospital’s disciplinary policy.

Requirements
1)As this is a maternity leave cover contract candidates must currently hold a visa to work in Ireland.

2)Up to date CORU registration
